The Intensive English course is designed to give the students a thorough grounding in the English language and the core skills needed to progress to a strong intermediate level. Typically it will be run over one year (commencing September) or over two terms (commencing January).
The students are integrated into the school as part of a general tutor group and have PE and Games lessons with their year group. The rest of the course is specifically designed to reflect their individual needs. In addition to ESOL lessons, students will also take a few other subjects such as Maths, Textiles, Business Studies and ICQ (International Computer Qualification).
At the end of the course we would aim to enter students for an Internationally recognised ESOL examination in English, such as the University of Cambridge Preliminary English Test. To date our pass rate is 100%.
Most students who join Sibford for this course remain at the school to study for GCSEs/A Levels. However, this course is also open to those students who wish to join us for one year only.
Students wishing to go on to a university foundation course at the end of the Intensive English Course will receive guidance in completing a successful application to a University Foundation Course, and, by immersing themselves in the life of Sibford School, will also be able to fully adapt to living and studying in the UK, prior to joining University.
This course is aimed primarily at students whose English is at Pre-Intermediate Level, however, we can consider students at Elementary Level.
