Sibford School pupil Libby Griffiths is to be one of two lead vocalists on a new single that is set to battle for the Christmas number one spot!

And she will be backed by more than 30 of her classmates who will be part of an expected 400 strong choir of Oxfordshire school children.

The charity single, ‘Dare Make a Wish’ is from a new musical called ‘The Land of Sometimes’ which tells the magical story of two twins, Alfie and Elise, who go on a journey to a far away land and along the way meet the most eccentric characters who all have their own songs.

Auditions took place in Banbury to search for two children to voice the twins on the single. Youngsters came from all over Oxfordshire and were asked to perform in front of a panel which included the single’s musical director, Mo Westworth (also founder of Unison Rock Academy and director of I-Stage Academy); Marc Marot, former president of Island records and now chairman of the Crown Talent and Media Group who manage Jessie J; and Banbury Sound DJ Kirsty Leahy.

Ten-year-old Libby was selected to take the part of Elise and 12-year-old Will Homewood, a pupil at The Warriner School in Bloxham, was chosen to sing the role of Alfie.

The single will be recorded at St Mary’s Church, Banbury on 28 November and will be released on iTunes from December 9, with proceeds going to Dyslexia Action.

Mo Westworth said: “Isadora who sings the part of Elise on the CD of the whole musical is dyslexic and felt that her involvement in recording The Land of Sometimes boosted her confidence and helped her overcome her learning difficulties. We therefore decided to use the single to raise funds for Dyslexia Action.

“By coincidence, Libby is also dyslexic, which the panel had no idea of until after she won the part.”

Danielle Perrin from Dyslexia Action said: “We are so grateful for being the partner charity of the single. The money raised will be used to help change many lives and help to break down the barriers in education that those living with dyslexia face.”
