Shropshire poet and children’s writer, Jean Atkin, will be sharing some secrets of the trade when she speaks to pupils at Sibford School on Thursday (13 March).
Jean has been making a significant name for herself in recent years. In 2008 she won the Dartington Hall Ways With Words Poetry Competition; in 2009 she won the Torbay Open Poetry Prize and the Ravenglass Poetry Press Competition; and in 2010 she was a winner in both the Mirehouse Poetry Competition and the Elmet Poetry Prize.
Last year saw the publication of her first collection Not Lost Since Last Time, and she has just been selected to be part of Room 204 2014/15, an initiative by Writing West Midlands for emerging writers who are looking for career development support.
Sibford School Librarian, Frances King, said: “It’s exciting to have a professional poet visiting us. Jean will be chatting with students and will also be leading a number of workshops, some of which will be outdoors, and will be encouraging pupils to seek inspiration from nature and the world around us.”
