Sibford crowned North Oxfordshire Swimming Champs 2016

swimming-champsSwimmers from Sibford Senior School are amongst the best in North Oxfordshire … and that’s official!

Throughout the term, Sibford has been competing against other secondary schools in competitions organised by the North Oxfordshire Schools Sports Partnership.

Cumulative scores across all the Secondary Competitions are recorded, and this week, following the Under 14 and Under 16 Finals, it was revealed that Sibford swimmers were the champions with 219 points, followed by Blessed George Napier, Banbury in second place with 194 points and last year’s winners, Cooper School,  Bicester, in third place with 175 points.

Emma Jackson, NOSSP School Games Organiser said: “A very well done to Sibford School who are the overall North Oxfordshire Swimming Champions 2016 and congratulations to all teams who have qualified for the Oxfordshire School Games Finals.”

Claire Ferley, PE teacher at Sibford added: “To be named North Oxfordshire Swimming Champions 2016 is a fantastic achievement. Because this title is based on cumulative results, which take account both individual and team scores, the winners of this title really do have to demonstrate consistency of skills across all the strokes. Last year we came second overall so to gain the crown in 2016 is fantastic and I would like to offer my sincere congratulations to all our swimmers … the hard work and long hours of training really has paid off!”

  • Of Sibford’s eight swimming teams, five have qualified to represent North Oxfordshire in the County School Games Finals next year. The Under 14 boys’ team and both the girls’ and boys’ under 16 teams will be competing in April and the Under 12 boys’ team will compete in June. Meanwhile, the Junior School boys’ team have also qualified for the County Finals.
