Sibford School near Banbury will be playing host to the Oxfordshire tournament of the Elite Insurance Sevens Series on Tuesday (15 March).
Since its inception in 2013, the Series has grown rapidly, from four regional tournaments and a dozen schools in its first year to six regional tournaments and over 80 schools in 2015. And in 2016, the event has been expanded further into new age groups and genders, with both an Under-18 tournament for boys’ teams and an Under-15 tournament for girls’ teams.
Eighteen teams will be competing in Tuesday’s tournament at Sibford … with the winners and runners up heading to Franklin’s Gardens, home of Premiership champions Northampton Saints, for Finals Day.
The Elite Insurance tournament forms part of Sibford’s annual Rugby Sevens Festival. Now in it’s 18th Year, the Festival began this week with the Under 12s event … which saw the team from Banbury’s Blessed George Napier school winning the plate and Winchester House in Brackley winning the cup.
In addition to the Elite Tournament on Tuesday the Festival will also include an Under 16s and Under 18s tournament on Wednesday and an Under 14s and Under 15s tournament on Thursday.
