Outdoor Learning

Sibford School’s beautiful location and extensive grounds enable us to provide our Junior School pupils with an unrivalled learning environment where they can benefit from the freedom to explore and engage with the natural world.

Our 50-acre countryside campus provides the perfect setting to enable us to embed Outdoor Education across the curriculum. Outdoor Education is woven into all subjects and is a fundamental means by which we deliver our curriculum and achieve academic progress.

Outdoor Education in the Junior School includes:

  • Forest School
  • Using the Living History area
  • Cultivating crops and flowers in our Raised Beds
  • A comprehensive range of educational visits, including residential trips for older children

Junior School pupils are encouraged to spend plenty of time outdoors in the fresh air where they are given the chance to grow and develop away from classroom constraints.

The outdoor classroom encourages active rather than passive learners, who are architects of their own learning. It fosters opportunities for children to interact effectively with peers, express their imagination, investigate and explore, assess and take risks, show independence and responsibility and to work co-operatively as part of a team.
