Our aims and ethos

Sibford School’s Quaker ethos has underpinned all policies and practices since the school was founded in 1842, and is expressed today through the following aims:

  • To create and maintain a culture in which all members of the community can be themselves, developing confidence, self-esteem and tolerance by ensuring a secure setting in which they feel valued and respected.
  • To enable every pupil to recognise and acknowledge his or her individual talents and to help each one realise his or her full potential.
  • To meet the needs of our pupils, be they educational or pastoral.
  • To provide our pupils with a thirst for lifelong learning and an active concern for their immediate environment and wider community.
  • To welcome parents into a partnership embracing trust, understanding and mutual support.

Sense of community

At Sibford, we make sure new parents and guardians are introduced to fellow parents with enrollment to the Sibford Parents, Staff and Friends Association (PSFA).

The PSFA exists to give parents a voice within the school and community. It organises fundraising events and helps the school to communicate effectively with current and prospective parents and organise activities and events that build a sense of community amongst parents.

Events that members of the PSFA regularly get involved with include:

  • Annual Open Day
  • Open Mornings
  • Christmas Fayre
  • Social events
  • Annual Charity Ball
Nursery and Reception

The skills that pupils learn with us in Sibford School Early Years set them up to be lifelong learners and we value the entire Early Years curriculum.

Admissions information:

The entry process for EYFS is flexible and can be built around the needs of your family.

Nursery

To enter Nursery, children must have reached the age of three by 31st August prior to the start of the academic year in which they will become four. Children can undertake taster sessions during the preceding summer term but, if they have not yet turned three, a parent/carer would need to accompany your child at these sessions.

Children starting in September at the age of three will initially be offered morning or afternoon sessions, but they can increase their hours as the year goes on.

Please note, it is expected that all Nursery children are able to use the toilet independently before joining the school.

Reception Class

Children move from Nursery to Reception in the September following their fourth birthday.

Admissions information:

Children applying for a place in our Junior School are invited to attend a two-day taster session. Typically, the first day will be spent getting to know prospective peers, teachers and the learning environment. On the second day children will undergo assessments focusing on core skills in reading, spelling and mathematics. These will be carried out on a one-to-one basis with a member of the Junior School Support for Learning department.

Extra-curricular opportunities

Extra-curricular activities are an important addition to the curriculum at Sibford School and we are proud of the range of clubs we have available before, at lunchtime and after school.

As a school we encourage pupils to ‘live adventurously’ and to take advantage of all opportunities that come their way.  We are proud to offer a wide and diverse range of extra-curricular clubs throughout the year.

Gifted and talented

At Sibford School we recognise the responsibility we have to both identify and meet the needs of our most able and academically gifted pupils.

Pupils are identified as being able, gifted or talented in a variety of ways and may be included on a departmental Gifted and Talented register or entered onto the whole school Gifted and Talented register.

Support for Learning

At Sibford School we believe that all pupils should expect an education that enables them to achieve the best possible academic and wider outcomes; to become confident, able to communicate their own views and ready to make a successful transition into adulthood.

What our parents say

"We are all impressed that the online work set continues to provide a challenge as well as being achievable and interesting. For me personally, the most impressive thing is that the spirit and ethos of Sibford is transcending physical barriers and that through Meetings, PSHE tasks, social media, holiday activities, online bedtime stories, and messages the school continues to have a great sense of community and togetherness. This is quite an achievement and hugely valued by us as a family."

"We would like to express our thanks about how well we think Sibford School has operated during lockdown. Pastoral care has been impressive and "live" classes brought much needed structure to our son's day. We have felt that he has been in very safe, well prepared and caring hands under your positive and visible leadership. Compared to different friends' schools the service from Sibford has really stood out."

"Moving our son to Sibford School was the best decision we have ever made. We are both immensely grateful to all the team for the support they have given, all of our lives have been enriched by Sibford School."
